M is for Marshmallow

We have just begun letter activities with my youngest son.  We have started with the letter M, as that is the letter his name begins with.  I like to tie each letter with a theme.  Today's theme was M is for marshmallow.  We did two hands on activities to go with this theme.

First I gathered everything we would need for our activities.  We needed one of these letter mats, four toothpicks and mini marshmallows.  

Though hard to see in the picture, here we chose the page with both the capital letter M and the lowercase letter M to place the marshmallows on.  One marshmallow goes into each circle.  This activity helps with fine motor skills and one to one correspondence.  

Another fine motor activity with marshmallows is to build the letter M with toothpicks.  All you do is stick the toothpicks in the marshmallows until they form the letter M!  My son really liked this activity and especially liked eating the marshmallows when he was through.
